In medieval Europe rubies were worn to attract health, wealth, wisdom, and success in love. Ruby slipper shaped rose cut rubies are paired with granulated tops for a stunning combination of 22 karat gold and red rubies The ruby "slippers" are freeform rose cut cabochons, totally natural, unheated, untreated rubies from the Bagh Bangla mine in India. These glowing stones are vanishingly rare and look their best in the rich yellow of 22 karat gold. The setting is open in the back, allowing light to pass through the stones and show the beautiful matrix of the gems.
The pear shaped tops are embellished with hand granulation and 3.5 mm AAA quality faceted rubies. The highly specialized granulation technique is done with a specially made alloy of 98% pure gold to fabricate 22k sheeting and wire and create the outline for individual granules before fusing the whole piece with fire.
Ruby is the birthstone for July.
