Turkish Delight Ring - Red Spinel Ring - 22K Granulation on Black Silver

A delicious confection of a ruby red spinel, 22k granulation and a black (oxidized silver)  ring band looks good enough to eat, but nicer to keep forever on your finger.  Inspired by Turkman style jewelry, the ring has a lightly textured, oxidized sterling band. 

The stone is set in a 22 karat gold setting, embellished with hand granulation.

For centuries, spinels were mistaken for rubies. A large, blood red spinel is one of the oldest stones in England's Crown Jewels. It dates back to the middle of the 14th century and has been in the possession of England's rulers since it was first obtained by Edward of Woodstock (the "Black Prince") in 1367 and since known as the "Black Prince Ruby."  In the 16th century, advancements in gemology found the stone to actually be a spinel. 

This ring is one of a kind, but I have a selection of similar stones for another version.

The stone is 7x5mm.   Band width is 10 mm. This ring will fit 8 to 8 1/2 ring sizes.
