Turquoise is one of the world’s most ancient gems. Archaeological excavations revealed that the rulers of ancient Egypt adorned themselves with turquoise jewelry. Over 3,000 years ago, the Chinese were using it for carvings. The gem’s name originated in the 13th Century from the French expression pierre tourques, or “Turkish stone.” Native American tribes in the Southwestern US used turquoise for jewelry, amulets and exchange of goods.
This freeform turquoise has rich, brilliant color which contrasts beautifully with the 22k gold bezel. The stone sits on a 6 mm wide, low dome sterling silver band.
